Travis Gene Graspy
Services for Travis will take place on Saturday, August 29th at Sunset Memorial Chapel and Gardens (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321). Visitation will start at 12:00PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00PM.
Travis Gene Graspy, born November 28, 1982, was an Eastsider through and through.
He was the son of Sherri Riehm and Larry (Crazy Larry) Graspy, and the brother of Glen "Troy" Graspy, and his baby sister, Brandi Graspy Nunez.
Travis grew up on the Eastside of Des Moines, making lifelong friends and making countless memories around E. 21st and Grand. He attended Brooks Elementary, Goodrell Middle School, and East High School. Eastside Pride was part of who he was.
Travis spent a lot of time with his Aunt Vickie and her sons, Jeremy and Justin. He loved being with his many cousins and always enjoyed the fun and laughter they shared. Travis also loved playing hockey, which began his lifelong love of sports. As he got older, he enjoyed racing dirt cars and was always ready for a little adventure.
If you knew Travis, you knew he was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. He was completely off the wall, had absolutely zero filter, and could make a whole room laugh without even trying. But underneath all that humor was someone who was always there when it mattered.
Travis rarely missed a family event or a ball game for his nieces and nephews. He loved taking them to the races and being part of the moments that mattered in their lives.
Travis loved competitive sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes, dirt track racing, traveling, nature, and his puppy dogs. He enjoyed rollerblading, making TikToks, cooking, and especially smoking food and making his special “Travis Sauce” for the people he loved. He was also proud to own and operate his lawn care business, Graspy's Grass, which he built through his own hard work.
For ten years, Travis shared his life with Lynnette Fisher and became an important part of the lives of her three daughters. He coached Graciela in softball and took pride in their bond. One of his greatest joys was being “Opa” to their granddaughter, whom he loved dearly.
Travis is survived by his mother, Sherri (George) Strable; his younger brother, Glenn “Troy” Graspy, and his son, Patrick; and his brother-in-law, Salvador Nunez, and the children of Travis’ sister, Brandi: Noah, Nadrian, Nalayna, and Nariana.
Travis was preceded in death by his father, Larry Graspy; his sister, Brandi Nunez (Graspy); his paternal grandparents, George and Ilene Strable; and his maternal grandparents, Glenn and Beverly Riehm.
Travis held a special place in the lives of his nieces and nephews; Noah, Nadrian, Nalayna and Nariana Nunez; and Easton, Wyatt and Patrick Graspy. He leaves behind a huge family who loved him, countless friends, unforgettable memories, and more stories than could ever fit on one page.
His humor was unforgettable, but it was the way he showed up for the people he loved that will be remembered most. He will be deeply missed by everyone who is lucky enough to know and love him.
