Shirley was born December 17, 1936, in Des Moines to William Sr. and Susie Roine (Moore) Wilson and grew up on Des Moines east side. In May of 1955 she welcomed her son, Wilbur. She was employed in customer and food service, working for Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Polk County and finally with Des Moines Public Schools as a proud and much loved “lunch lady" at Madison Elementary School.

Shirley enjoyed bowling, playing card games, needlework and going to the casino. She was married to Jerry Caster for nearly 47 years before his passing in 2011. She took pride in being able to take her grandchildren, Jason and Lisa, on yearly summer vacations to visit family and explore the USA. After retiring she and her husband helped care for her great-grandson, Hudson.

Shirley is survived by her adored pup Lucky, grandchildren; Jason Wesley Wilson and Lisa Marie (Steven James) Sharp, her great-grandsons; Charles Wilbur Wilson, Hudson James Sharp, Quinn Sage Wilson and Jack Wesley Wilson, her brother William Wilson Jr., sister Neva (Wilson) Anderson, and daughter-in-law Diane (Moon) Wilson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, son Wilbur Lee Wilson, granddaughter-in-law Melissa Christine (Duerkes) Wilson, brother Charles Wilson, and sisters Laura (Wilson) Wasserman and Sondra (Wilson) Crawford.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Shirley’s family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the Trinity Center at Luther Park staff members and for her end-of-life support from UnityPoint Hospice.
