Roger Lee Chambers

Roger Lee Chambers was born on March 25, 1956, in Greenfield, Iowa and passed away at home with his family on October 20, 2025.

Roger was a hardworking, big-hearted, and resourceful man known for his quick wit, steady hands, and unwavering love for his family.  Roger leaves behind a legacy built from a life well lived.

Over the years, Roger built a career in both the bulk mail center and car sales industries. His dedication and work ethic were unmatched, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike. Whether sorting mail with precision or helping someone find the perfect vehicle, he took pride in doing every job right.

Outside of work, Roger lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fishing, hunting, and hitting the golf course whenever he could. He rarely missed a sporting event, whether in the stands, on TV, or cheering from the sidelines. A master of the daily crossword, he loved a good mental challenge almost as much as he loved time with his family.

Some of his fondest memories were made traveling to northern Minnesota and Canada—places he considered second homes—where he passed on his fishing wisdom to his girls, including the unique talent of untangling impossibly knotted lines. A natural problem-solver and human compass, he always knew how to get where he was going, and how to fix anything that broke along the way.

Roger had a gift for building and creating, whether it was with wood, tools, or simply his own two hands. From handcrafted projects to home repairs, there was little he couldn’t do. He was the one you called when something needed fixing—and the one who showed up, no questions asked.

Above all, Roger cherished time spent with his loved ones. Family was at the heart of everything he did, and his legacy will live on in the stories, laughter, and traditions he helped create.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Roger is survived by his wife, Cathy Chambers; his daughters, Abby DeFrancisco (Tyler) and Michelle Wyant (Tom); his sister, Ronda Wendt (Dennis); his grandchildren, Elliott and Elena; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Murell and Delores Chambers, and his grandmother, Velma Elliott.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 10AM to 12PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321).  After the Celebration, there will be a luncheon held in the chapel, all are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
