Robert Sly

Robert John Sly, 74, was born on January 20, 1952, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and passed away on September 18, 2026, at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa.

Robert attended the Iowa School for the Deaf and graduated from the Council Bluffs School for the Deaf. His time there was an important part of his life and helped shape the many experiences and relationships he carried with him throughout the years.

Robert is survived by his sons, Theodore, Edward, Robert, and Matthew Sly; his brother, William R. Sly (Katherine); and his half-siblings, Mike Sly, Jeff Sly and Pam Kelley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Sly, and his mother, Leatrice Sly.

Robert will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him, and the memories shared with him will continue to be treasured by his family and friends.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of Robert at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service celebrating Robert’s life will follow at 12:00 p.m. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
