Rex William "Bill" Shaughnessy

Rex William "Bill" Shaughnessy, 83 of Indianola, Iowa, went to be with his Lord on August 14th, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born on Dec. 31st, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rex H. Shaughnessy and Florence Mae Overton.

Bill worked for Rock Island Railroad until they closed, moving onto Chicago Northwestern Railroad and finally retiring from Jacobson Warehouse.

On June 2nd, 1963, Bill married the love of his life, Janet of 63 years. Together they built a life centered on hard work, Love, and family. 

Bill loved to go hunting and fishing with his cousins, nephews and later with his grandsons. He was an avid Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, and most of all Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Later, he loved betting on the horses. Most of all he Loved his family putting them above all else.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife Janet and his daughters Jodi (Mike) Barden and Shelley Shaughnessy, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Mae, sisters Barb, Cherry, and a brother Don and a host of other family and friends.

Bill will be remembered by his family for the love and loyalty; he showered us with.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, with visitation starting at 10:00a.m. Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive Des Moines, Iowa 50321 and he'll be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
