October 8, 1949 – June 16, 2025

Reatha Ann Hardin, 75, of Des Moines, Iowa, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on June 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Born on October 8, 1949, in Coburn, Virginia, Reatha lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. Her life was a testimony to the love of Christ, which she freely gave to everyone she met.

A dedicated member of the Church of God of Prophecy from 1967 to 2006, she then attended Sunshine Open Bible until her passing. Reatha served faithfully as the Children’s Sunday School teacher for ages 4–8, Children’s Church Director, and a committed leader in Vacation Bible School. Alongside her beloved husband, Lyle, Reatha prepared countless church fundraiser meals, with her homemade, from-scratch pies becoming a beloved favorite of the community.

One of the most selfless acts of love she ever made was donating her kidney to Lyle, as she was a perfect match. Reatha’s pride and joy were her four grandchildren, her family and friends, and her beloved fur babies. She also had many honorary grandchildren who brought her great happiness over the years.

Reatha is survived by her daughters: Tricia (Ray) Barker of Minnesota, Pamela (James) Gibson of Iowa, Lori (Greg) Richards of Iowa, grandchildren: Tyler Barker, Nichole Barker Shoemaker (Paul), Kyle Gibson, sisters: Hassie Hale (VA), Dorothy Gleim (IA), Shirley Ratliff (SC), Barbara Michaels (IA), brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Larry & Dee Hardin (IA).  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and honorary grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Partha Cotella Arnold; her sister, Frances Hutchinson; and her brothers: Eugene Arnold, Glen Arnold, Franklin Dee Arnold, Arthur Kay Arnold and Vernon Arnold.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321.  Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, with graveside services to follow.  A luncheon will be held at 1:00 PM at Sunshine Open Bible Church, 3100 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, IA 50317.

The family of Reatha Ann Hardin would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sunshine Open Bible Church for sending their angels to help care for their mother; retired pastors Jerold & Cindy Morris; Pastor Kelly for prayer and family support; and the Gibson family for their continued love and care.

Reatha was truly loved by all who knew her, and her legacy of faith, generosity, and unconditional love will live on forever.
