Mary Luella Holman, 81, passed away in Lancaster, Ohio on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Mary was born in Des Moines to Mary Lou (Shore) and John W. Blackburn. She attended Des Moines Technical High School and Des Moines Area Community College. In the 1980s,
Mary enjoyed working as a teller at American Federal and in customer service at several other Des Moines area businesses. As she liked to say, she worked in lots of places with lots of really great people.
Mary was an avid and compassionate animal lover. She volunteered at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and, to everyone's surprise, brought home only two pups from the shelter during her years as a volunteer. She also had a keen wit, a sharp mind, and a gorgeous singing voice, and she was an incredibly fun person to be around.
Mary is survived by her daughters Stacy Holman Jones (Daniel Harris) and Jodi Everette (Mark); grandchildren Sydnie Roenker (Mason), Haddie Holman Jones, and Tobias Everette (Kendyll); and great-grandson Sylas Roenker. She was very much looking forward to welcoming a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter in the coming months. Her beloved husband of 58 years, Dean, preceded her in death in 2023, as did both of her parents and her sisters Cora Blackburn (Richard) and Betty Leanhart (Richard).
In Mary's memory, the family asks that contributions be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. The family would also like to thank the staff at Reflections Retirement Community and Arbors at Carroll in Lancaster, Ohio and Summit Hospice of Columbus, Ohio for their attentive and loving care.
