Mary Kathyrn Rife


Mary Kathyrn Rife was born September 20th, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Esther Evelyn Clark and Albert Garrett.


Mary departed this life on April 24th at 12:00am. Preceding her in death is her husband William E. Rife, Michael Angelo Knox Jr., her parents, her brother Donald Edward Smith, and her nephew Don Delano Smith.


Mary worked at Des Moines General Hospital for 10 years, where she was trained for an Inhalation Therapy specialist. She then went onto work for 25 years at Blue Cross and Blue Shield (also known as Wellmark). After leaving Wellmark, she worked at Delta Dental for 10 years.


Mary loved God and listening to the Christian Broadcast Network. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved shopping and decorating. She has a niche for creative pathways. She loved cooking while of course listening to music and playing card games. She also loved laughing all the while playing pranks and jokes on her family.


Mary leaves to remember her daughter Michelle Anita Carson, her siter Anna Maria Colvin, her brother Lerenzo Cecil Clarks, brother Fredrick Lewis Clark, brother David Wesley Clark, and a host of grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews, and cousins.


On Tuesday, May 2nd, there will be a funeral service at 12:00pm at Sunset Memorial Chapel with a time of visitation an hour prior at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest next to her husband William at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family invites all to join them back in the chapel following burial to have a luncheon to further commemorate and honor Mary’s life.
