Mary Helen Mezera

Mary Helen Mezera, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, at EveryStep Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

A devoted wife, loving mother, and long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Mary will be remembered for her deep faith, warm heart, and the joy she found in cooking for her family. Her kitchen was always a place of comfort, laughter, and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Robert in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Frank and Dorothy (Steffes) Strobel; her brothers William (Norma) Strobel and Edward Strobel; and her sister-in-law, Vera Strobel.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim (Sandy), Mark (Candace), and Frank Mezera; her brother, Thomas Strobel; sister-in-law Mae Strobel; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Mary’s kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family leave behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
