Marvin Kay Steffensen, 88, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 16, 1937, on the family farm near Joice, Iowa.
Marvin was exceptionally proud of his service in the United States Air Force and carried the values of dedication and integrity throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a respected career as a Certified Public Accountant in private practice.
A loyal and passionate Iowa Hawkeyes fan, Marvin held season tickets for 41 years and delighted in cheering on his team through every season.
Marvin’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving daughters Kim (John) Coan, Pam (John) Korges, and Tina (Jon) Hade; grandchildren Shannon (Dustin) Carroll, Wilson (Arthur) Korges, Shelton Korges, Jillian Hade and Jake Hade (Dan Ruderman); sister Betty Mitchell; sisters-in-law Deloris and Susan Steffensen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The Steffensen family proudly spans more than two hundred strong—each one touched by Marvin’s love, humor, and steady kindness.
He was preceded in death by his wife Yuvonne, parents, Arthur and Zilpha Steffensen; brothers DeVere, Cecil, Clyde, Garth, and Don; sisters Elaine Yates, Mae Legg, Jeannette Ennen, and Joann Costigan; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A private graveside service will be held, and Marvin will be inurned in the military garden at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the UnityPoint Hospice team for their exceptional care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Marvin’s name to Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa, or to the Caitlin Clark Foundation at https://caitlinclarkfoundation.org/donate/
