Martha Jean Holdefer, 72, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021, at Mercy One Medical Center.
Martha was born on October 21, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald Harrison Barr and Georgina Barr (McKay) who proceeded her in death.
She graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1967 and moved on to work several jobs and finally retiring from the Des Moines Public Schools, where she worked as a food service employee.
She married Harold Wayne Holdefer of Centerville, Iowa on July 7, 1972, and shared forty-nine wonderful years together.
She enjoyed traveling, holidays and spending as much time with her family as possible. She never met a stranger and always made everyone feel welcome. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by her husband; Harold Wayne Holdefer, sons; Mark Holdefer (Diana), Matt Holdefer (Kathi) and Jeff Holdefer (Jason). She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister. She was preceded in death by her older brother.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on November 22, 2021, from 5pm-7pm. She will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens on November 23, 2021.
