Mark Alan Boylan, 69, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mark was born on October 3, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a deeply loving and supportive father, known for his goofy sense of humor, gentle heart, and the happiness he brought into everyday life. He had a special way of making people laugh and feel at ease, and his presence was a comfort to those who knew him.
He spent his career programming computers, and in his younger years, he played guitar in a band. Music remained close to his heart throughout his life, and some of his most treasured moments were those spent creating joyful memories with his children—filled with laughter, connection, and love.
Mark earned both a bachelor’s degree and an associate degree in the arts. More than anything, he was devoted to his family. He truly cherished his children and grandchildren and found his greatest joy in making them smile. Whether through a joke, a song, or simply being there, he always did what he could to brighten their days.
He is survived by his daughters, Hannah Pearson and Lillian Shanahan; his sons, Michael and Ryan Bales, and Jacob Borowiak; his beloved grandchildren, Leah, Hazel, Bella, Junior, Natalie, Sammy, Destiny, and Jake; and his sister, Sara Anderson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, IA 50321, where family and friends are invited to share memories and gather for a small lunch.
Mark’s love, laughter, and kind spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
