Larry “Wolfy” Docken

Larry “Wolfy” Docken, 74, died May 28th at home surrounded by family. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Cemetery (Main Entrance 7601 Fleur Dr.) on October 4th at 2:30pm. Followed with a celebration of life from 4-7pm at Scornavacca’s, SE 14 & Hartford, in Des Moines, IA.  


Larry was born on October 4th, 1949. He was raised on the Southside of Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln HS in 1967. After graduation Larry served in the US Navy. Larry later retired from the US Postal Service in 2006.  


Larry played little league baseball and loved his fishing trips in Minnesota and Canada. Another great love of Larry’s was attending national drag racing events with his brother Lonny in Indiana for 35 years. He was a big NASCAR fan. Larry was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.  


Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, of 41 years; stepdaughter Tricia (Jason) Byers; siblings Cindy (Amir) Ghalibaf, Karan (Max) Sloan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  


He was preceded in death by his parents Roland “Bud” and Donna, his twin brother Lonny, his sister Vicki, and brother-in-law Gary Theobald.  


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Unity Point Hospice Taylor House.
