Kalouna Meunsaveng passed away on July 12, 2022 at 8:55AM in his home due to liver cancer, surrounded by family as they watched him take his last breath. Just a week away from his 72nd birthday, he fought a hard battle after being diagnosed in late May, and unfortunately could no longer fight.
Kalouna was born July 21st, 1950 in Namdik, Khammouan, Laos. To his parents, father (Sawadee Meunsaveng) and mother (Gong Meunsaveng), he was the third son out of eight children. In 1981, he left Laos alongside his wife and six children to migrate to America. Settling down in Iowa, he found a home and resided here for 41 years. He watched as his children grew independent and went on to make their own families. Always being visited by family and friends, everyone he knew could agree he was a great man. He never left his wife’s side, becoming her caretaker after she was left paralyzed. He loved to garden and watch his plants grow, sharing his work with all of his family. He was someone full of joy who would do nothing but give everything to those around him.
He was survived by a wife (Davane), three daughters (Keo, Deng, Seuth) and two sons (Phon, Dao), 17 grandchildren (Sonny, Brittany, Diana, Anita, Alex, Aalyiah, Aaron, Sean, Simon, Ashley, Jada, Lydia, Carmen, Mya, Cardin, Scarlett, Royal ) and 5 great-grandchildren (Zella, Sai, Alijah, Vera, and Azula).
Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church (5711 SW 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50315) on Monday, July 18 at 10:00 AM with visitation to start at 9:00 AM. There will be a luncheon to follow. Kalouna will be laid to rest a Sunset Memorial Gardens (7601 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, IA 50321) on Saturday, July 23 at 10:00 AM.
