Judy Lynn (Snyder) DeVries, 83, of Indianola, Iowa, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Indianola. Judy was born on January 16, 1943, in Bellflower, California, to Eugene F. Crawford and Grayce E. (Warren) Martin.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service and reception will follow. Her nephew, Doug Kieler, will officiate.
Â
Judy's life was a beautiful reflection of her deep faith, unconditional love for her family, and genuine kindness toward everyone she met. Raised in the Des Moines and Altoona area, she shared a special bond with her grandmother, Ethel Warren, who helped nurture the faith that would guide Judy throughout her life. Her trust in God was the foundation upon which she built her family and lived each day.
Â
Family was Judy's greatest treasure. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who found her greatest joy in caring for and spending time with those she loved. She continually reminded her family to trust in God, show kindness to others, and treat people with respect and compassion. Her wisdom, encouragement, and steadfast love will remain a lasting gift to all who knew her.
Â
Judy never met a stranger. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and valued, often striking up conversations and forming friendships wherever she went. Whether offering a listening ear, sharing a story, or simply spending time with someone in need of company, Judy's caring heart touched countless lives.
Â
After returning to school in the mid-1970s, Judy worked for many years as a dedicated bookkeeper for several companies. Outside of work, she found beauty and joy in God's creation. She especially loved flowers, with daisies being her favorite, and delighted in the sight of butterflies, which seemed to reflect her gentle spirit and appreciation for life's simple blessings.
Â
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Laura (Kevin) Thrasher, Tandi (Don) Foust, and Jolon Schobert; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Malachi) Owens, Jessica (Ross) Henry, Krista (Landon) Beard, Kayla (Dave) Peters, Jake (Bridgette) Foust, and Kody (Image) Foust; fifteen beloved great-grandchildren; her sister, Karen (Rex) Young; her brother, Gary Crawford; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Â
Judy was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Harry and Grayce Martin, her husband, Cal DeVries, and her long time friend and the father of her daughter's, James Snyder.
Â
Judy's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Hospice in Indianola for the loving care, compassion, and support they provided to Judy and her family during her final months.
Â
Though her family will miss her deeply, they find comfort in knowing that her faith has become sight and that she is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
Â
"Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness." — Proverbs 31:25-26
