Jerry W. Shepherd, 76, passed away August 15, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1948, in Ottumwa, IA to Raymond and Erma (Sirdoreus) Shepherd. His family moved from Agency, IA to Des Moines when he was 6.
After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1966, Jerry attended United Electronics School and worked at Look Magazine before being drafted into the Army in 1968 where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He later married Vicki Clark, his wife of 54 years. He began his career at AMF before working for the state-run Liquor Commission Warehouse, ending his career working for the Iowa DOT in the Motor Carrier Truck Licensing, Routing, and Permit area.
Jerry was a loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle to his family and a helpful and supportive friend to many. If anyone needed assistance, Jerry was always there to lend a hand. He had the ability to fix anything and was the go-to person for servicing vehicles or power equipment.
Jerry enjoyed attending his children’s activities and carried on that constant presence to all his grandchildren. Papa, as he was affectionately referred to by his 6 grandkids, was always in the crowd cheering them on and offering his unwavering support and love. He also treasured hanging out and playing with his “grand-dogs” whenever he visited.
Jerry was known for his friendly nature and easy-going personality. He got along with everyone he encountered.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, mother, father-in law Glen Clark, mother-in law Virginia Moylan, niece Jonnie Costanzo, sisters-in law Karen Clark and Maxine Clark, and brothers Tom and George.
