Jerry Gross

Jerry Michael Gross, 83, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away from complications of a stroke, on February 18, 2021.


He was born to Herbert and Edith Gross in West Des Moines, Iowa, on March 22, 1937.

Jerry graduated from Valley High School. He served in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic and was stationed in England. After his military service he attended Grand View University earning a degree in math. Jerry worked most of his life as printing press operator and printing plate maker.


He met Dorothy Rich Dilsaver at a Parents Without Partners dance and they were married on Valentine’s Day, 1987.


Jerry loved to read, actively studied biblical Hebrew, and played the slide guitar. He was also a railroad enthusiast. He was well versed on current news and politics and enjoyed discussions on these topics.


Jerry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dorothy, his children from his first marriage; daughter, Pamela (Mac) McDougal; son, Tom Gross; grandchildren, Deanna (Rob) Kieliszek, Erin (Adam) Schroeder, Devin (Laney) McDougal, Patrick (Lia) McDougal, and Tyler Gross; and great-grandchildren, Montana, Skylar, Emmitt, Emma, Eli, Isaiah, Dylan, and Victoria, stepchildren, Kathy Rinkenberger, Michael (Jane) Dilsaver, Mark (Rhonda) Dilsaver, Janet (Brad) Kinman; step-grandchildren Gerod (Missy) Rinkenberger, Bob Rinkenberger, Kaitlin (Collin) McCormick, Aaron (Ashlie) Dilsaver, Allison Kinman and Brady Kinman; and great-step grandchildren, Macyn, Cooper, and Finnegan. He is also survived by his sister, Judy (John) Watson.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Edith Gross, and his son, Jerry Michael Gross Jr.


Services will be held for family members at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in memory of Jerry.
