Jeffrey Kim Heuer, age 71, was born on September 4, 1954, in Hawarden, Iowa and passed of natural causes on June 25, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa. The family will greet guests beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service, and all are welcome to join the family for a luncheon afterward.
Jeff graduated high school from Sheldon, Iowa. He obtained an accounting degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa. Jeff moved to Des Moines to start his career in accounting where he worked for Iowa Bankers Association for 35+ years.
Jeff played many sports, but his passion was playing golf with his family and friends. His favorite sports team to follow was the St. Louis Cardinals but also enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings, Cyclones, and even the Hawkeyes. He loved to take on house projects with his late father-in-law Joe. Jeff shared his handyman knowledge with his kids and grandkids. He left his impact at each of their houses which leaves them with wonderful memories of their dad.
Jeff was a true Midwesterner and made it a point to help his neighbors however he could.
Jeff loved his wife, Peggy. She was and will always be his person. They spent 45 years enjoying every minute of each other’s company.
Jeff built a family legacy of selflessness, compassion, caring, and most of all being present. He coached his kids and some of his grandkid’s sports. He was always present at every game, concert, recital, lesson, and anything that involved his family. The void left behind will never be filled but he left us with so many memories that will never be forgotten.
Jeff is survived by his wife Peggy Heuer; children Kelli (Fred) Nixon and Kyle (Cassi) Heuer; 5 grandchildren Leila Nixon, Samantha Nixon, Cruz Westfall, Bentley Westfall, Maverick Heuer; his siblings Amy (Brian) Vander Wilt, Tim (Jennifer) Esbeck, Ann (Jim) Alexandres; his brother-in-law Bill (Kelly) Marturello and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents John Heuer and Ruth Esbeck; his in-laws Joe (Thelma) Marturello, and his brother Steve Esbeck.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jeff's honor to the American Diabetes Association.
