Hattie J. Wilcox, “Pattie,” was born on August 25, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa. She went to be with the Lord and her heavenly loved ones on September 24, 2025, at home, surrounded by her children and other loving family.
Hattie owned a home daycare for 41 years, and many of her past daycare children to this day call her “Grandma” because they love her so very much. While running her daycare, she also owned, alongside her late husband Roland Wilcox, Pat and Ron’s Brew Haus on SW 9th and McKinley. After her husband went to be with the Lord in 2002, Hattie continued to own the Brew Haus until Covid, which ended up spanning over 25 years of running that business and meeting so many people she considered great friends along the way.
Hattie loved her family first and foremost. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her siblings were the main loves of her life, and time spent with them was her whole world. She always loved holiday gatherings, birthday celebrations, and the regular visits she had with all of them. She also had many friends she met over the years from both of her businesses, many of whom frequented the Brew Haus, where she formed another family. She would light up the Brew Haus with her beautiful smile when she showed up, making so many memories there with friends and family alike.
She loved playing backgammon on the computer and playing poker with anyone she could—whether family, friends, or both. She enjoyed camping, gambling, and many other things, including riding on the back of both of her sons’ Harleys, wherever the roads and highways led them. She loved the life she had while on this earth.
Hattie is survived by her daughter Julie (Doug) Erdman; her four sons, Donnie Hill, Bill Jones, Tracy Jones, and Jeff Jones; her siblings, Beverley (Ed) Klavins and Paul (Star) McConnell; and her longtime boyfriend, Jim Mills. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Elva McConnell; her husband, Roland “Ron” Wilcox; seven siblings, Sonny Robinson, Lottie Aldine, Walter “Junior” Atkinson, Donnie McConnell, Bill McConnell, Betty Hill, and Carolyn Fetters; and her grandson, Donald D. Hill.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Eagles Lodge #109, 6567 Bloomfield Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50320. A luncheon will be available, followed by a service where family and friends can share the wonderful memories they had with her.
Gone but NEVER forgotten and loved by so very many!
John 14:1-3
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
