Harold Oren Barnes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 11, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, Harold lived a life marked by love, resilience, and a passion for family. Harold was the beloved son of Walter and Alice Barnes.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice, five brothers, one sister, and a great-grandson. His legacy endures through his devoted wife, Ruth, and their four children: Steve (Jane) Barnes, Kelley (Dan) Roseberry, Janet (Dan) Simpson, and William (Laura) Barnes. Harold was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and a loving great­ grandfather to twelve great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.


For 62 years, Harold dedicated himself to Hawkeye Pallet, where he built a reputation as a hard worker, respected by colleagues and friends alike. His commitment to his job was only matched by his dedication to his family. Harold was a man who relished life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, solving puzzles, watching cowboy shows, and trying his luck at the casinos. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his family, whose laughter and love filled his heart. Harold's spirit was one of adventure and joy. His motorcycle adventures took him on countless journeys, fueling his passion for freedom and the open road. Whether he was immersed in a challenging puzzle or enjoying a day at the casino, he approached every activity with enthusiasm and an infectious smile. His love for cowboy shows reflected his appreciation for storytelling and the values of hard work and determination that were central to his own life.


As we gather to celebrate Harold's life, we invite friends and family to join us for his

funeral service on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM, held at Berwick Cemetery, located at 6201 NE Berwick Drive in Ankeny, Iowa. This day will be an opportunity for all who knew him to share stories, remember his kindness, and honor a life well-lived.


Harold Oren Barnes leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will forever inspire those he touched. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace, Harold. Your journey may have come to an end, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved you.
