Garrett Howard Steele, age 55, was born on July 14, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away on December 22, 2025, at his residence, leaving behind family and friends who will forever miss him.
Garrett served in the United States Army, a reflection of his strong belief in service and loyalty. He served in both Operation Desert Shield and operation Desert Storm. Following his military service, he worked as a heavy-duty diesel technician, a role that suited his dedication, skill, and work ethic. Garrett valued commitment, took pride in his work, and lived with a deep sense of responsibility to those around him.
He is survived by his sisters, Ella Steele of Arizona, Lori DeVries of Iowa, and Rennae Steele of Iowa; and his brothers, Jayson Steele of Iowa, Jimmy Haus of Oregon, and Shane Reynolds of South Carolina.
Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Violet Bacon, and his father, Raymond G. Steele.
A graveside service with Army Honors will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, IA 50321 on January 9th at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garrett’s name to a local VFW, the American Legion, or a local animal shelter or humane society. Family and friends are invited to honor Garrett by raising a glass, sharing a sarcastic comment, or speaking their mind unapologetically — just as he would have appreciated.
