David was born on April 27, 1944 in Knoxville, IA to Charles Frederick and Ethel Mae Jordan (Holdsworth). He attended Lincoln Country school and graduated from Knoxville High School. David furthered his education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and University of Iowa. He enlisted with the Navy in Cedar Rapids in September of 1966. His Navy career took him to San Diego for training where he would spend most of his off-duty time with his mother’s family that lived in Lomita, California. His cousin’s, Marcia and Sharon Holdsworth, spent time with David riding together and camping in Yosemite Park with their parents. During one of his visits, he saw this shy redheaded beauty sitting in a corner when his cousins introduced him to their friends Linda and Gloria Daffron. Gloria soon became his red headed firecracker as they married in 1968 and soon moved to Idaho Falls. David continued his career with the Navy as an instructor at the Nuclear Power War School teaching nuclear submarine reactor operations. In 1972 he separated from the Navy and brought his wife and two children back to Iowa to assist his father with farming. He continued to farm throughout the 70’s and 80’s as a devoted husband, while raising four children, an ardent supporter of church leading worship service and serving as a deacon. David retired from working at Titan Tire in Des Moines and spent much of his time traveling with Gloria visiting family along the west coast. He was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye fan watching as much football and basketball when he could. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family by camping and traveling to the Rocky Mountains on many occasions. His generosity and compassion to those in need was seen by his support of the church and his music ministry for local nursing homes as well as opening his home for those who needed.
David is preceded in death by his parents and niece Sherry Brees. Survived by his wife Gloria, children Rebecca Jordan, Dan (wife Dianna) Jordan and their children Craig, Nicholas, and Joseph, Jason (wife Katie) Jordan and their children Charles and Sarah, Jessica (husband Scott) Michael and their children Aaron, Stephanie, Ian, Brett and Jordan, sisters Gloria Farnham and daughter Betsy Mashburn, Donna (husband Dick) Holdsworth and daughter September Monk.
