Updated: Mar 13, 2023

David Albert Catron of Des Moines, 76, passed away on March 1, 2023 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. David was born on May 30, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ralph and Elizabeth Catron. David spent his early childhood years in smaller Iowa towns, including Mitchellville and Boone, before his family settled in Des Moines. David met the love of his life, Linda, and was married on September 4, 1969 in New London, Connecticut. They returned to Des Moines in 1969 to live and raise their family.

David humbly served 4 years in the United States Navy and also 2 years in the Navel Reserves. He received his Honorable Discharge from active duties on October 13, 1969. David spent his professional career as a Union Sheet Metal Worker with Local 45 in Des Moines. He proudly worked and retired as a member in good standing for 50+ years.

David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed his walks around Gray's Lake in Des Moines where you may have seen him with his "slow moving vehicle" T-shirt on.

David is preceded in death by his "first and only' wife Linda, who passed on September 6th, 2008. David will be best remembered by his family as a devoted husband who tenderly cared for Linda through a lengthy illness and never left her side.

David is survived by his two sons, Dale (JoDee) Catron of Norwalk, IA and Joe (Tara) Catron of Prairie City, IA. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the DAV or VA Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on March 24th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with family receiving friends at Dave and Linda's home following the service.
