Curtis Smith

Curtis James Smith, age 53, left us suddenly on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in Des Moines Iowa. Curt was the son of James Smith and Sandra Martinez (Arthur).


Curt lived on the southside of Des Moines all of his life and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1989 where he pursued his love of football. Curt married the love of his life on September 9, 1995 Anna and together they raised 5 children, Jacob Jones (Aissa), Emilee Torres, Sydnee Smith, Alexander Smith and Zachary Smith. Curt worked at the Bridgestone/Firestone Plant in Des Moines for 26 years. He had a kind soul and helped anyone in need that he could, he was an amazing father, husband, brother and friend to so many. Curt was the kindest and sweetest guy who never had a bad word to say about anyone because once you were his friend, you were always his friend. He was always trying to keep the peace with others in conflict and loved his family with all of his heart. Curt loved football and his heart belonged to the Minnesota Vikings. He was a fantasy football player and won many championships over the years. He also enjoyed a good poker game.


Curt is survived by his wife, Anna Smith, his children and 5 grandsons, Cooper, Abel, Judah, Oliver and Asher, his sisters, Julie Friedmeyer, Tina Worthington, brothers, Kevin W. Smith (Kellie), Aaron Martinez (Heidi), Adam Matinez and his stepfather, Arthur Martinez. Many nieces and nephews and the hundreds of friends around Des Moines. Curt was preceded in death by his father, James Smith and his mother, Sandra Martinez.


A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50321 and the service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, starting at 11:00am at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa 50321 with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.


The family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon following the service.


Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.
