Charles William Wessel Sr. passed away April 28, 2024.
He was born August 11, 1945, to Harold and Vivian Wessel in Des Moines, IA. He lived in Des Moines most of his life except when Charles joined the Marines. He served in Vietnam from December 5, 1963 – December 4, 1967. Also serving 3 years of non-active duty earning six metals. He worked for the City of Des Moines for 29 years. Charles loved dancing, fishing, motorcycling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Cheri, sons Chucky Jr., Terry and Jeff, stepson Craige, sister Renee (Jerry), brother Pat, grandchildren Carolyn, Michael, Dylan, Breanna, Zachary and Jennifer, great-grandchildren Madison, Lathyn, Shelby, Kaiden, Kayne, Paisley and Kolton and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Leona, parents Harold and Vivian, sisters Shirley Hyde and Madeline Doll, brothers Dennis Wessel, Ronald Wessel, Harold Wessel, nephews Thomas Hyde and Frank Hyde and great – granddaughter Elsa Rose Walker.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Chapel 7601 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, IA 50321, the funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
