Candy Davey

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Candace (Candy) Joy Davey, 69, entered peacefully into heaven on July 7, 2022.

Candy was born on November 26, 1952 in Oskaloosa, IA to Marlene (Braden) and Darrell Ferguson. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. After Lincoln, Candy attended Mercy College where she received her R.N. degree. She worked at Mercy Hospital as a nurse for 38+ years; she also completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College of Health Sciences while working at the hospital.

Candy married the love of her life, and high school sweetheart, Tom Davey in 1977 and they raised their two wonderful daughters, Joy and Jill, in Des Moines. Candy loved being a mom and quite possibly loved being a grandma to Stella Rae even more.

Candy was an avid fan of all Iowa schools and enjoyed watching football and basketball games with family and friends. She also delighted in watching her granddaughter Stella do just about anything she tried, but especially dance; Stella’s dance recitals were always a highlight. Candy and Tom loved to travel and see new things; sometimes with family and friends, and sometimes just the two of them. She appreciated good music and enjoyed going to concerts of all types; she was always up for a new adventure and a good time, especially with those she loved. In addition to being a mom, grandma, fun-loving friend and an amazing nurse, if you knew Candy, you knew that she was steadfast in her faith. If you were a part of her life, there’s a good chance you were also in her prayers.

Candy will be missed by many and is survived by her husband, Tom Davey and their daughters, Joy and Jill Davey; granddaughter, Stella Rae; father, Darrell Ferguson; brother, Kyle (Deidre) Ferguson; sister-in-law, LuAnne Davey (Terry Glasgow); brothers-in-law, Pat (Kim) Davey, Brian (Patty) Davey and Bob (Laura) Davey. There are many nieces and nephews left to cherish Candy’s memory, as well as great nieces and nephews. Candy is preceded in death by her mother, Marlene Ferguson and her mother-in-law, Rae Delmege.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on July 13, 2022 and a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on July 14, 2022, both at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be given directly to the family, who intend to support charities at MercyOne Des Moines, or made directly to EveryStep Hospice. The staff at EveryStep was instrumental in us being able to give Candy her last many weeks at home and we can’t thank them enough.
