Beverly Weigle

Beverly Ann Weigle, age 86, passed away November 7, 2023 in Adel, IA. She was the eldest born to Eliza and Paul Simmons on December 27, 1936 in Oskaloosa, IA. The family moved to Des Moines, IA in 1942 where Beverly graduated from North HS in 1956.


Beverly married in 1957 and resided in Cedar Rapids, IA from 1959 to 1973 before returning to Des Moines in 1973. She worked at Central National Bank until her retirement in 1996. She remained in her beloved home in Windsor Heights for 44 years, taking great pride in her flower beds, shrubs, and trees. Beverly loved and cherished her many pets and enjoyed feeding birds, squirrels, and stray cats. Beverly offered friendship and support to her neighbors and coworkers alike. She was a beloved daughter, big sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all.


Beverly is survived by her sisters, Liz Stevens and Sandra Powell; brother, Paul Simmons; and daughters Michelle (Kevin) Kochheiser of Des Moines, IA; Marianne (Tom) Aceto of Evergreen CO and their sons, Nick Aceto of Evergreen, CO and Matt Aceto of Lake Nona, FL; Shelly (Ron) Counsell of Buffalo, NY and their daughters, Kimberly (Joshua) Wheelock of Waverly, IA and Kristen (Blake) French of San Diego, CA; and Melisa (Rick) Hazelton of Rifle, CO and her son, Alan Bellio of Lakewood, CO.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Eliza Mae and Paul Byron Simmons; and sisters, Marian Wills and Barbara Bierman.


A visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 4 to 7 pm at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA.


Beverly often donated to animal shelters and animal causes, such as the ASPCA and Best Friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the aforementioned or to Hospice of the Midwest. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the hospice staff and the staff at Adel Acres for their devotion, loving comfort, and care.
