Hit by county truck at age 6, Betty was left badly injured and in leg braces. Given the diagnosis of never being able to walk again nor bare children, her future seemed bleak. Her mother's younger sister, Florence worked diligently to get her walking again. Betty went on to marry the love of her life, Joe, giving birth to five children, and being able to outrun them all!!!
Betty had seen the man of her dreams at her "Sweet 16" birthday party yet would not formally meet him until sometime later when this young man came up to offer his assistance putting on her roller skates at the roller rink. Three years of dating, they were planning to elope, but instead gave way to a wedding ceremony on June 1st 1959 soon after she had graduated from high school.
Their affection and love for each other was a daily display leaving no doubt in anyone's mind that these two were soulmates. They would share nearly 61 years together until cancer claimed her beloved.
The couple gave birth to a handsome son, Paul Lewis, a beautiful daughter, Mona Lisa, a set of identical twins Brenda & Linda, and a lovely daughter Susan Kay. Tragedy struck the couple when they lost their first child, Brenda, at the age of 12 days. Sadness struck again when they lost their grandson Sylvester in 1988 and again when their oldest daughter passed away in 2014.
Betty enjoyed many activities such as bowling, a hobby she took to a higher level as a participant on the TV show "Let's Go Bowling", crocheting, crafting, walnut picking, nightcrawler hunting, riding off on adventures with her husband on their fully dressed Honda Goldwing motorcycle, and being navigator / co-pilots on Mini Cooper excursions with their daughter Linda.
She was grandmother to 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She remembered birthdays and anniversaries, even going as far as wishing "Happy Father's Day" and "Happy Mother's Day" to the grandchildren and their spouses.
Joe passed away on March 3, 2020, waiting "Just Beyond the Moon" for his Love to catch up on June 20, 2024.
Betty passed away peacefully at King's Garden Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa.
Others who have preceded her in death are her mother Stella, father Art, daughters Mona and Brenda, grandson Sylvester, and her beloved brother Christopher (Chris) Clifford Post, aka Skeeter.
She is survived by her son Paul (daughter-in-law Kathy) Koesters, daughter Linda Harding, daughter Susan ("Sue") Koesters, and her late brother's husband, Lee Brittain.
She will be sorely missed by family and many friends, especially those from King's Garden, her Bible study group, and her dear friends Paul and Adele Schneider.
