Garry Leeroy Summers passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 71.

Services will be held on Friday, July 31st, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321) with visitation starting at 12:00 PM.  Following the visitation, there will be a funeral service at 1:00 PM with burial to follow out in the cemetery.

Garry was born on June 26, 1955, to Donald and Ruby Summers. He spent most of his life behind the wheel of a semi-truck, traveling the highways and dedicating himself to a career he loved. When he wasn't trucking, Garry could often be found building houses or working on carpentry projects. There was very little that Garry couldn't build with his hands, and his craftsmanship was admired by many.

After retiring in 2014, Garry enjoyed spending his days in his garage, often accompanied by his beloved dogs, Jim Bob, George, and Stella. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Garry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Vickey Summers; his children, Amanda (Joe) Thompson, Brandy (Bill) Rattray, Garry (Kami) Summers Jr., Alan Ward-Well, and April Robb; his grandchildren, Josh (Azalea) Rattray, Jake (Jaidyn) Rattray, Jayson Rattray, Kayden, Sirenidey Summers, Jayda Rattray, and Karley Summers; his great-grandchildren, Jaxsin and Klayton Rattray; his brother, Kenny Merten; and his sister, Sherry Summers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ruby Summers; his stepmother, Edna Summers; his brothers, John and Robert; and his sisters, Debbie and Becky.

Garry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, skilled craftsmanship, love for his family, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
