Doris Mae Roth

Doris Mae Roth was born to Orville and Eliza Terry in their Des Moines home on July 18, 1930.  She entered into the presence of the Lord peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, July 23, 2026.

Following graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1948, she worked as a secretary for Meadow Gold Dairy.  She married her high school sweetheart, John Roth, on August 8, 1950.  John had been in the Navy Reserve, and when the US entered the Korean War, he enlisted for active duty with the Navy.  He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  

Over the years, Doris worked in the Des Moines Public School District as a substitute aide.  For a short time, she worked for the American Dairy Association.  

When John's job at Meredith Publishing ended in 1974, Doris and John started Roth Upholstery, where they worked tirelessly until retirement.  She did all of the sewing and bookwork for their business.

Doris is survived by four children: Anne Shore, Terri (Wes) Sperr, Sue (John) Pierschbacher, and Karen (Rick) Roth; 13 grandchildren: Jonathan Shore, Benjamin Shore, Rachael Metcalf, Michelle Morrison, Tim Sperr, Nicolle Czarnecki, Dan Pierschbacher, Amy Huynh, Bethany Fisher, Elisabeth Gerdt, Ashley Kalita, Stephen Roth, and Holly Yurkin; 43 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Roth and Vivian Terry; and many nephews and nieces.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Eliza Terry; her beloved husband, John; two brothers, Earl and Orville Terry; sister-in-law, Nita Terry; and son-in-law, Mark Shore.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Alathea Baptist Church on 10450 County Line Road in Des Moines. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Alathea Baptist Church as well as one hour before the Tuesday morning service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery on Fleur Drive.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the support of Visiting Angels this past year, and in particular, the loving care of Tina Marquis.

Because of the truth of God's Word, the family is confident that their Mom/Grandma is in heaven with Jesus, now awaiting the resurrection of her body when Jesus returns. John 3:16.
